Formerly known as Central Hindu College, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a central university that is recognised by the UGC and accredited with an ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and has been ranked 3 among the ‘Top Universities’ by NIRF consecutively in 2021 and 2020. The University is known for its own entrance exams which have now been recognised and conducted at a national level, including BHU UET (for UG admissions), BHU PET (for PG admissions), BHU RET (for PhD admissions), among others.

Banaras Hindu University has signed MoUs with over 40 national and foreign universities to offer better exposure to the students and faculty members. Since BHU has collaborated with multiple universities, a large number of students from foreign countries like the USA, the countries of Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa, etc. come to study here. The University also encourages financially and categorically backward students with several scholarships with an intent to promote equal opportunities. BHU Affiliated Colleges

Banaras Hindus University comprises three institutes, 14 faculties, 140 departments, four interdisciplinary centres, a constituent college for women and three constituent schools. In addition to this, the University houses six centres for advanced studies, 10 departments under special assistance programmes and a large number of specialised research centres. It is the only University that comprises an IIT, namely IIT BHU, which is famous for its BTech programme. BHU Courses and Fees 2021

Banaras Hindu University offers 352 courses across 16 streams at UG, PG and PhD level. BSc is the flagship programme of BHU and it is a three-year programme. The duration of PG programmes, such as MTech, MBA, MSc and MDes is two years each. BHU also offers special courses like Masters of Personnel Management & Industrial Relation (MPMIR), MA in Public Administration (MPA) and Diploma in Gender & Women Studies. The University has recently launched BTech in Dairy Technology and Food Technology. A majority of BHU courses are imparted in full-time mode.

Banaras Hindu University admission 2021 is conducted based on national level undergraduate (UET) and postgraduate (PET) entrance tests conducted during May-June. Registrations for these usually take place between February-March. Selection takes place on the basis of merit scores in these entrances subject to fulfilling other eligibility requirements. BHU application process 2021 is conducted online through the official website of the University. For successful application submission, candidates need to pay an application fee of INR 600 (General/ OBC Category)/ INR 300 (SC/ST Category). Registered applicants selected based on merit have to undergo a counselling procedure with the relevant University department.

BHU Placements

BHU has an independent placement cell that makes every effort to provide students with employment opportunities. Over the last decade, students of the University have been securing excellent placements in numerous domestic and international companies in every placement season. As per the official website of BHU, some of the placement highlights are mentioned below for the year 2019-20:

  • The highest CTC was INR 1.5 crore per annum which was offered to three students and INR 1 crore per annum was offered to one student
  • The highest CTC offered to the students of Faculty of Management BHU was INR 15 LPA
  • The average package offered to FMS BHU students was about INR 6-7 LPA

As per the Shiksha report, the exceptional placement statistics of the University promise a high ROI. In the placement season of 2017-2018, three Engineering students at BHU received packages of INR 1.52 crore per annum. Numerous well-reputed companies visit BHU to take part in campus recruitment. BHU Scholarships 2021

BHU offers financial assistance and numerous scholarships to meritorious and needy students. Some of these Banaras Hindu University scholarships are enlisted below:

  • Blind students are offered free dinner and lunch under the Annadaan Yojna as well as 20 blind students receive INR 5,000 per annum each
  • Students, who secure first and second ranks, are granted an award of INR 4,000 and INR 3,000, respectively
  • 100 students coming from economically weak backgrounds are granted a scholarship of INR 2,000 per annum
  • Pyare Lal – Prem Vati Memorial Scholarship worth INR 10,000 is awarded to the student enrolled in the MBA programme who tops the first year exams
  • Dr. S.N. Ranade Scholarship is offered to the academically best students enrolled in MBA Agri-Business programme
